Used actively in medical terminology to denote a condition of sensitivity to pain as specified by the combining root.

brachialgia (s) (noun) (no pl)
Pain in the arm: Dr. Big told Jane that more examinations had to be done in order to find out the cause of the brachialgia, and that she should use her arm as little as possible.
cardialgia (s) (noun), cardialgias (pl)
An uneasy or painful sensation in the anterior (front) chest or upper abdomen; heartburn; cardiodynia; pyrosis: Robert's cardialgia was caused by the reflux of acidic stomach fluids that entered the lower part of the oesophagus.
caudal anesthesia, caudal epidural anesthesia, caudal block (s) (noun); caudal anesthesias; caudal epidural anesthesias; caudal blocks (pl)
Anesthesia produced by injection of a local anesthetic into the caudal canal (toward the caudal or tail), the sacral portion (large heavy bone at the base of the spine) of the spinal canal: Caudal anesthesia is used to provide anesthesia and analgesia (pain relief) below the umbilicus.

Caudal anesthesia may be the sole anesthetic, or it can be combined with a general anesthesia.

For her knee operation, Dr. Smith, the anesthesiologist, administered a caudal anesthesia so Pearl was awake during the operation but she didn't feel any pain.

causalgia (s) (noun), causalgia (pl)
Persistent severe burning sensations, usually following partial injury of a peripheral nerve (especially median and tibial) or the brachial plexus, accompanied by trophic changes: Symptoms of causalgia are sensation of burning pain in the distribution of a peripheral nerve, associated with glossy skin devoid of hair or wrinkles.

Other associated changes due to causalgia include swelling, redness, sweating, and curling of the nails.

Causalgia is usually due to irritation of a nerve by injury. The median or sciatic nerves are most commonly involved.

celialgia, coelialgia (s) (noun); celialgia; coelialgia (pl)
Pain in the stomach or the abdominal cavity_ When Tim complained of his tummy hurting him, he went to his favorite doctor, Dr. Smith, who examined him and said that he had a case of celialgia.
celiomyalgia (s) (noun) (no pl)
Rarel, pain in the abdominal muscles: The most common causes of celiomyalgia are normally not dangerous, like indigestion, a pulled muscle, or gas pains.
cephalalgia (s) (noun), cephalalgias (pl)
A headache: When Kitty's head hurt, she used the fancy term cephalalgia to impress her mother!
cerebralgia, cervicalgia (s) (noun); cerebralgias; cervicalgias (pl)
A bad headache: Sarah came down with a cerebralgia which was sever and deep-seated, so she went to see her doctor about it.
cervicobrachialgia (s) (noun) (no pl)
Pain in the neck and the arm: Cervicobrachialgia is a neuralgia in which pain extends from the cervical region to the arms or fingers.

Cervicobrachialgia is caused by compressed nerve roots of the cervical spinal cord.

cheilalgia, chilalgia (s) (noun); cheilalgias; chilalgias (pl)
A pain in the lip: Suddenly Jill felt a real pain in her lower lip and wondered if she had bitten it by accident.
cheiralgia, chiralgia (s) (noun) (no pl)
Non-traumatic or neuralgic pain in the hand: Mrs. Edwards thought she might have gout or chiralgia affecting her hand and fingers because they certainly hurt!

Cheiralgia paresthetica refers to compression neuropathy of the superficial branch of the radial nerve, marked by pain and paresthesae when pressure is applied over the course of the nerve.

"Paresthesa" (paresthesiae, plural) indicates any sensation, such as pins and needles, burning, sticking of sharp objects, etc., which occurs spontaneously without external causes in certain diseases of the central or perpheral nervous system.

cheirobrachialgia, chirobrachialgia (s) (noun) (no pl)
Outdated, pain and paresthesia in the hand and arm: Since Tom had felt a prickling and itching in his right hand, and after his doctor examined him, Dr. Smart said that he probably had a case of cheirobrachialgia, and sent him to a specialist to make sure.
cheiropodalgia, chiropodalgia (s) (noun) (no pl)
Rare, pain in a foot or in both feet: Not only did Jerry feel an unhealthy sensation in his left hand, but also in his left foot, and his doctor told him, after examining him, that he most likely had a condition of cheiropodalgia, but more testing and examining would be necessary.
cholecystalgia, biliary colic (s) (noun),biliary colics (pl)
A type of smooth muscle or visceral pain (the internal organs of the body, especially those of the abdomen such as the intestines): Cholecystalgia is specifically associated with the passing of stones through the internal organs of the body, particularly those of the abdomen like the intestines.
chondralgia (s) (noun) (no pl)
Pain in and around cartilage: Somehow when Sally bent her arm it hurt quite a bit, and after her check-up at Dr. Lawson's clinic, she was informed that she had a case of chondralgia affecting the grist or cartilage in her elbow joint.
