path-, patho-, -path-, -pathia, -pathic, -pathology, -pathetic, -pathize, -pathy

(Greek: feeling, sensation, perception; suffering, disease, or disorder; a system of treating diseases)

In medicine, some of these elements usually mean "someone who suffers from a disease of, or one who treats a disease"; so, they should not be confused with the words that mean "feeling" which are also shown on these pages even though both meanings come from the same Greek element.

lipopathy
Any disorder of lipid metabolism.
logopathy
Any speech defect associated with damage to the central nervous system.
lymphadenopathy
Any disease process affecting a lymph node or lymph nodes.
lymphopathy
Any disease of the lymphatic vessels or lymph nodes.
macropathology
The phase of pathology that pertains to the gross (large) anatomical changes in disease.
maculopathy (s) (noun), maculopathies (pl)
Retinal pathology or the study of the disease that involves the rich optic nerve or the yellowish central area of the retina of the eye: Maculopathy is the medical research of diseases of an area at the center of the retina that is associated with highly sensitive and accurate vision.
mastopathy
Any disease of the mammary (breast) gland.
mazopathia
mazopathy (s) (noun), mazopathies (pl)
Any disease of the placenta or of the female breast.
melanopathy
Disease marked by pigmentation of the skin.
meniscopathy (s) (noun), meniscopathies (pl)
A pain or an infection of the cartilaginous tissues found in body junctions: Meniscopathy may indicate a treatment of a disease or an abnormality of a meniscus which consists of ligaments that reduce friction during bodily joint movements.
metabolic craniopathy, metabolic encephalopathy
Encephalopathy characterized by memory loss, vertigo, and generalized weakness, due to metabolic brain disease including hypoxia (abnormal oxygen reduction), ischemia (low oxygen condition because of inadequate blood flow), hypoglycaemia (abnormally diminished concentration of glucose in the blood), or secondary to another organ failure; such as, the liver or kidney.
meteoropathology
The pathology of conditions caused by weather or atmospheric conditions.
meteoropathy
Disease or illness caused by climatic conditions.
metropathia
