(Greek: one, alone, single; a number used as a prefix)

monotype
1. A trademark for a typesetting machine run from a keyboard that activates a unit that sets type by individual characters.
2. A plant, or animal, that is the only member of the taxonomic category to which it belongs.
3. A unique printed image or an artwork created by pressing on paper laid on an inked metal plate or sheet of glass.

Although similar prints can be made, each one will be unique.

monoxeny, monoxenous
A reference to a parasite that is restricted or which utilizes a single host species during its life cycle.
monoxylic
A descriptive word for a canoe or boat which is made from one piece of timber (wood).
monoxylon
1. A canoe or boat made from one piece of timber (wood).
2. Something formed from a single piece of wood; such as, a sculpture.
monoxylous
1. Formed or made out of a single piece of wood.
2. Using one piece of wood to make a boat or a coffin, etc.
monozoic (adjective) (not comparable)
Referring to a single central capsule in an organism: A tapeworm can be regarded as being monozoic with only one proglottid in which the body is not divided into proglottids (one of the segments of a tapeworm containing both male and female reproductive organs).
monozygotic, monozygous (adjective) (not comparable)
Pertaining to one zygote or a single ovum, a female reproductive cell or egg: Jack and Tom are monozygotic twins and have the same genetic code, while Susan and Sandy are genetically "dizygotic" twins and are considered to be ordinary siblings.
