-tion

(Latin: a suffix forming nouns from verbs of condition and action; an act or process: resumption, absorption; state or condition, redemption, exhaustion; something resulting from or otherwise related to an act or process, assumption, friction)

This unit is presenting a small fraction of the hundreds of words ending with the suffix of -tion; however, there is a significant number of words which may help everyone have a better understanding and appreciation of the use of this element.

insertion
1. The act of inserting: "She made an insertion of a coin into a vending machine."
2. Something inserted: "There was an insertion of text in the middle of the paragraph."
3. Additional written material that is inserted into a text.
4. The manner or place of attachment, as of an organ of the body.
5. With lace, embroidery, or the like, to be sewn at each edge between parts of other material.
inspection (s) (noun), inspections (pl)
1. The action of examining something: "David thought his car would have something wrong with it, but the mechanic's inspection indicated that everything was all right."
2. An examination carried out in order to ensure that something has accomplished official standards: "Greg's company had to prepare a tax report; so, the accountant verified that it was ready for the official inspection."
institution (s) (noun), institutions (pl)
1. An established and usually public corporation or organization: After Kitty got to her financial institution, she realised that it was a holiday and it was closed!
2. The building of a foundation or organization: Raymond was told that the park he wanted to go to was across from the only institution in the village and very easy to find!
3. A conventional and accepted custom, system, practice, etc.: In many countries of the world, marriage is an accepted institution.
4. The undertaking of installing something: The institution of new school rules for smoking caused a lot of irritation among the older students at school.
instruction (s) (noun), instructions (pl)
1. A statement or explanation of something that must be done, often given by someone in authority: "The instruction of the recruits was the responsibility of the first sergeant.".
2. A spoken or written statement of what must be done; especially, delivered formally, with official authority, or as an order.
3. Printed information explaining how to use or do something.
4. A line of code written as part of a computer program.
5. The activities of educating or instructing or teaching, or the profession of teaching; including activities that impart knowledge or skills: "The instructions for studying the concepts of chemistry were very clear."

1. The action of forbidding by or as by authority; authoritative or peremptory prohibition: "The government official issued an interdiction that would forbid dog owners from allowing their pets to wander the streets.
2. The interruption of supply operations by aerial bombing: "As a result of the bombing by enemy forces, there was an interdiction of supplies to the city and the residents were slowly starving.

The fact of or act of interrupting or pushing oneself into a situation: David's frequent interpositions into our conversations became very irritating.

interpunction (s) (noun), interpunctions (pl)
The addition of symbols between words or sentences; punctuation mark: Interpunction, including specific signs and markings, are used in writing to give it structure and for better comprehension and understanding for the reader.

1. An act or instance of interrupting.
2. The state or action of being interrupted.
3. Something that interrupts.
4. Cessation; intermission.

1. The act, or process, of introducing or the state of being introduced (make known by formal announcement or recommendation).
2. A means of presenting one person to another; verbally or in written form.
3. Something recently introduced; an innovation.
4. Something spoken, written, or otherwise presented when beginning or introducing something, especially: a preface, as to a book; a short preliminary passage in a larger musical movement or work; a basic introductory text or course of study.
5. An action of putting in, or of inserting; such as, the introduction of a catheter into a vein.
