-cide, -cides, -cidal

(Latin: a suffix; kill, killer; murder, to cause death, slayer; cutter; “to cut down”)

Don’t confuse this element with the another -cide that means “to cut”; although -cide, “death”, is related to -cise, -cide, “to cut down”.

neonaticide
The killing of a neonate (a baby from birth to four weeks).
nepicide
The murder, or killing, of a newborn.
nonpersistent pesticide, soft pesticide
A pesticide compound that is rapidly biodegradable with a half life of a few days.
occide
To cut down, to kill.
omnicide
The destruction of everything as in a nuclear war.
ovicide
1. An agent destructive to eggs; such as, of parasites.
2. A chemical agent that kills eggs; especially, the eggs of insects.
oxyuricide (s) (noun), oxyuricides (pl)
An agent that destroys pinworms: Oxyuricide is used to kill worms of the genus Oxyuris.
paracide
An obsolete or erroneous form of parricide.
parasiticide
1. An agent or preparation that destroys (kills) parasites.
2. Destructive to parasites.
3. An agent that destroys parasites, e.g. such as those that infest the skin.
parasuicide
A suicide attempt, or act of self-injury, that is motivated by a desire to draw attention to personal problems rather than by a genuine wish to die.
parenticide
One who murders his parent (or parents).
parricide
1. Someone who murders his/her father (some say: either parent, or other near relative).
2. The murderer of any one whose person is considered especially sacred as being the ruler of the country or in some position of trust.
3. A reference to anyone who commits the crime of treason against his country.
4. The killing of a person's relative.
parricidism
Anyone who has a tendency or inclination to murder his/her father, or either parent, or other near relative.
patricidal
1. The act of killing one's father.
2. Someone who kills his/her father.
pediculicide
The killing of lice.
