The term pupil came into existence because when one looked closely into another person's eyes, he/she could see the reflections of little images ["dolls" or "puppets"] of her/himself.

An instrument for recording pupillary diameter.

The recording of the pupillary diameter of the eye.
pupillomotor
1. A reference to the innervation or motility of the pupil of the eye.
2. Relating to the autonomic nerve fibers that supplly the smooth muscle of the iris.
pupilloplegia
A condition characterized by the slow reaction of the pupil to light stimuli.

Usually a unilateral condition of the eye in which the affected pupil is larger than the other, responds to accommodation and convergence in a slow, delayed fashion, and reacts to light only after prolonged exposure to dark or light.

An instrument for observing the pupils of the eyes and their reactions.
pupilloscopy
An objective method for investigating, diagnosing, and evaluating refractive errors of the eye, by projection of a beam of light into the eye and observing the movement of the illuminated area on the retina surface and of the refraction by the eye of the emergent rays.

1. A device for measuring the interpupillary distance.
2. An instrument for measuring the distance between the centers of the pupils of the eyes.
