Don't confuse the words in this pilo-, pil- group with the pil- or "plunder, heap up" unit.

pilomotor
1. A reference to the arrector muscles, the contraction of which produces cutis ansertina (goose flesh) and the erection of the hairs.

pilonidal
1. Pertaining to, characterized by, or having a nidus or tuft of hairs.
2. A reference to a cyst containing hair as a nucleus or nidus.
pilose, pilosity
1. Used to describe plant parts that are covered with soft hair.
2. Hairy; covered with hair; downy.
3. Covered with fine soft hair.
pilosebaceous (adjective) (not comparable)
A reference to the structural unit of hairs: The pilosebaceous body parts consist of the hair itself, the follicle, the arrector pili muscle, and the sebaceous gland.
pilosis
