So called because the lens of the eye resembles a lentil bean in appearance or shape.

phakoma, phacoma
Any of the hamartomas found characteristically in the phakomatoses; one example is the herald lesion of tuberous sclerosis.
phakomatosis
Any of a group of congenital and hereditary developmental anomalies having in common selective involvement of the tissues of ectodermal origin; for example, central nervous system, eye, and skin; as well as, the development of disseminated glial hamartomas (phakomas) in these tissues.
prosthetophacos (s) (noun), prosthetophacoses (pl)
A term for the intraocular lens that is placed in the anterior or posterior chamber of the eye, or attached to the iris after a cataract extraction: The ophthalmologist discussed Lynn’s poor visual condition with her and suggested that she obtain a prosthetophacos which could restore her vision as much as possible.
pseudophacos
An intraocular lens of inert plastic placed in the anterior chamber of the eye, behind the iris, or clipped to the iris after cataract extraction.
pseudophakia
An eye in which the natural lens is replaced with an intraocular lens.
