-pexy, -pexia, -pexes, -pexic, -pexis, -pex +

(Greek: a suffix; fixing [of a specified part]; attaching to, a fastening)

Used in medical nomenclature to denote "a surgical fixation" of that which is specified by the combining root.

calcipexis
Fixation of calcium in the tissues, an occasional cause of tetany in infants.

Tetany refers to the hyperexcitability of nerves and muscles resulting from a decrease in the concentration of extracellular ionised calcium.

This may be associated with such conditions as parathyroid hypofunction, vitamin D deficiency, and alkalosis; or it may result from ingestion of alkaline salts.

It is characterized by carpopedal spasm (spasms or synchronous contractions of the neck, hands, and feet), muscular twitching and cramps, laryngospasm (spasm of the vocal cords and epiglottis) with inspiratory stridor (harsh sound heard during inhalation caused by air passing through a constricted passage), hyperreflexia (exaggerated reflexes), and choreiform (loss of neuronal functioning) movements.

cecopexy
Fixation of calcium in the tissues.
cholecystopexy

chromatopexis, chromopexis

colpopexy

cordopexy
1. Operative fixation of any displaced anatomical cord.
2. Lateral fixation of one or both vocal cords to correct glottic stenosis (the narrowing of the vocal cords and the opening between them).
cryptorchidopexy
Surgical treatment of an undescended testicle by freeing it and implanting it into the scrotum.
cystopexy
Surgical attachment of the gallbladder or of the urinary bladder to the abdominal wall or to other supporting structures.
enteropexy
Fixation of a segment of the intestine to the abdominal wall.

Attachment of the stomach to the abdominal wall or diaphragm (thin muscle below the lungs and heart that separates the chest from the abdomen).
hepatopexy
Anchoring (attachment) of the liver to the abdominal wall.
hysterorrhaphy
The sutural repair (material used in closing a wound with stitches) of a lacerated (torn) uterus.
