An area with definable boundaries, especially an encircling area.

zona (s), zonae (pl)
1. Any encircling or beltlike anatomical structure.
2. An area or part, usually delimited, with distinctive characteristics or sturcture; a zone, band, or layer.
3. A radiately striated membrane situated next the yolk of an ovum, or separated from it by a very delicate membrane only.
