esophagostoma
1. The external opening of an artificial opening leading into the esophagus.
2. The external opening of a surgically created communication between the skin and the esophagus.
esophagostomy
Surgical formation of an opening directly into the esophagus from an external direction.
esophagotome
A cutting (surgical) instrument for use in esophagotomy.
esophagotomy
An incision through the wall of the esophagus.
esophagotrachea
Communicating with both the trachea and esophagus.
esophagotracheal, tracheoesophageal
A reference to communicating, or connecting, with both the trachea and esophagus.
esophagus (s), esophagi (pl)
1. The passage down which food moves between the throat and the stomach.
2. In medicine, the musculomembranous passage extending from the pharynx to the stomach.

It is about 25-cm long and consists of three parts:

  1. The cervical part, from the cricoid cartilage to the thoracic inlet.
  2. The thoracic part, from the thoracic inlet to the diaphragm.
  3. The abdominal part, below the diaphragm to the cardiac opening of the stomach.

3. Etymology: from Greek oisophagos; from oiso-, "to bring, to carry" + phagos, "eat".
esophoria, esophoric
A tendency of the eyes to deviate inward.
esoteric (adjective), more esoteric, most esoteric
1. Referring to something that is intended for or understood by only a particular group or by a few people who have special training, access, or interests: Henry was a member of an esoteric cult or a select group of individuals.
2. Relating to that which is known by a restricted number of women and men: The information was intended for a select esoteric few.
3. Pertaining to something secret or which is highly confidential and not available to the public: The results of the financial processes at Henry's company were very esoteric and restricted for anyone else to know about.
4. A reference to something that is hard to understand: The teacher presented some esoteric topics to her students which were incomprehensible for their grade level.

1. Highly specialized subjects or publications of secrets known only to an initiated minority.
2. Matters or issues that are understood by or which are meant for a select few.
esoterically (adverb)
Limited to a small number of people who have knowledge about something: "They were esoterically prepared to explain the concepts of their religious organization."
esoterism, esotericism (noun)
1. The holding of esoteric opinions or beliefs, that is, ideas preserved or understood by a small group or those especially initiated, or who are of rare or unusual interest.
2. The inward forms of faith and religion; transcendence, mystic experiences, or those with special internal revelations of the Divine.
