-cide, -cides, -cidal

(Latin: a suffix; kill, killer; murder, to cause death, slayer; cutter; “to cut down”)

Don’t confuse this element with the another -cide that means “to cut”; although -cide, “death”, is related to -cise, -cide, “to cut down”.

femicide, femicidal (rare: feminicide)
1. One who kills a woman.
2. The killing of a woman.

For example, AIDS in Africa has been termed "mass femicide".

Femicide is in contrast to the literal meaning of homicide, meaning "the killing of men".

feticidal
The action of destroying a fetus or causing an abortion.
feticide, foeticide.
1. The destruction or killing of the fetus or causing an abortion.
2. The destruction of the embryo or foetus in the uterus.
3. The intentional destruction of a human fetus; for example, by using an agent or drug.

Feticide, as a legal term, refers to the deliberate or incidental killing of a fetus as a result of a human act; such as, a punch or kick in the abdomen of a pregnant woman. It does not refer to the death of a fetus from entirely natural causes, or through the spontaneous abortion of a pregnancy where the life of the fetus could not be maintained artificially ex utero.

fideicide (s) (noun), fideicides (pl)
A breaker of one’s word or trust; a destroyer of trust.
filaricide, filaricidal
1. Something that destroys Filaria.
2. The killing of filariae (roundworms).
filicide (noun), filicides (pl)
A person who kills a son or a daughter; a slayer of his or her own child or children: "After a lengthy investigation, the filicide was arrested and charged with the murder of her twins."
floricide
Something which kills or destroys flowers.
formicide, formicicide
The killing of ants.
fratricide, fratercide
1. One who kills his/her brother.
2. The action of killing one’s brother.
3. The crime in which someone kills his or her own brother.
fungicide
1. The destruction of fungi or something used to kill fungi (spores).
2. Any chemical substance (dry or moisture) that destroys or inhibits the growth of fungi.
gallicide, gallicidal
A killer of fowls.
gallinicide
The killing of hens, or turkeys, or poultry in general.
gametocide
The killing of malarial parasites.
genocide, genocidal
The deliberate and systematic extermination of an ethnic or national group.
germicidal (adjective)
1. Preventing infection by inhibiting the growth or action of micro-organisms.
2. An agent that kills pathogenic micro-organisms.
