(Greek > Latin: a suffix; action, act, process, state, or condition; or result of doing something)

Although there are over 1,450 word entries ending with -ation or -ization listed in this unit, there are certainly many more which exist in the English language. At any rate, this unit provides a significant number of -ation and -ization examples for you to see.

animalize (AN uh muh lighz") (verb), animalizes; animalized; animalizing
1. To bring out someone’s brutal or instinctive nature: Sometimes being active in war for a few years in a country can animalize a soldier later on when he or she is home again, and there are some who become quite cruel and ruthless towards others.
2. To make coarse and brutal; dehumanize: Hostilities in fighting can animalize people by degrading them, demeaning them, or putting them down.
3. To endow a deity, or god, with the attributes of a creature that is non-human: Jane read a story where a divine being was animalized into the form of a horse and later appeared again as a humanoid or a person.
animation (an" uh MAY shuhn) (s) (noun), animations (pl)
1. Liveliness in the way someone speaks or behaves; the quality or condition of being active: Susanne showed a great deal of animation as she performed in the drama.
2. The making of movies by filming a sequence of slightly varying drawings or models so that they appear to move and change when the sequence is shown and so they appear to be alive: Animations have been produced for many movies and even for sites on the internet.

An addition to a former number: Annumeration is an old-fashioned term that is not used in current English since it was replaced by "numeration".
annunciation (s) (noun), annunciations (pl)
1. A declaration or process of providing information that is done in a formal way: Constantine went to the father of his girlfriend, Carolyn, with an annunciation of his love and wish to marry the young woman.
2. When capitalized, it is the date in Christianity upon which the Angel Gabriel informed Mary and Joseph of the upcoming birth of Jesus: Many churches celebrate the Annunciation with glorious music and prayers.

A situation in which someone walks in front of another person, or people; or something.

Being against the mixing or blending of races: Historically, there have been anti-miscegenations by some societies against interracial marriages and having children.

The prevention of having a chemical substance of an object being changed by the addition of oxygen: Mrs. Smith wondered if it was possible to keep bananas from turning brown by antioxidation.
antiproliferation (s) (noun) (no pl)
1. The opposition of a boost in nuclear weapons: Thousands of people protested against allowing additional countries to obtain more weapons of mass destruction because they supported policies of antipolifierabtion.
2. The actuality of containing measures to curb nuclear proliferation: A few countries decided to sign a treaty of antiproliferation.

2. Outdated, a title used for a place, a thing, or for someone when addressed; designation: Chuck referred to the outhouse, the correct appellation for the primitive toilet behind the house.
