A condition in which milk is not secreted in the mother's breasts after her child has been delivered.
aglobuliosis, aglobulism (s) (noun) (no pl)
An obsolete term for a condition characterised by a deficiency of red blood cells: Mrs. Thompson had lost quite a lot of vitality and her doctor diagnosed it as being a case of aglobulism with symptoms of anaemia.
aglycositosis
1. Subsisting on a diet that is free of all sweets.
2. Living without eating or consuming any sweets.
ahypnosis (s), ahypnoses (pl) (nouns)
A state of profound insomnia or the inability to sleep; sleeplessness.
albuminosis (s) (noun) (no pl)
A condition of the blood in which the proportion of albumen is increased; hyperalbuminemia: Albuminosis is a disorder of the blood distinguished by the existence of more than the normal amount of albumin.
algosis
A condition in which the body harbors algae or fungi.
allobiosis (s) (noun), allobioses (pl)
1. The condition of altered reactivity which an organism manifests under changed environmental or physiologic conditions.
2. The changed activity exhibited by an organism when subjected to an altered (another) environment.
3. A form of an element that has isotopic abundances that are different from the naturally occurring form; for example, "depleted" uranium has had most of the uranium-235 removed, and is an allobar of natural uranium.
aluminosis
Fibrosis of the lungs due to inhalation of dust of metallic aluminum or aluminum-containing ores.
amaurosis (s) (noun), amauroses (pl)
The total loss of vision; especially when it happens without pathological changes to the eye itself: The doctor told Brian that he had a medical condition known as amaurosis which is caused by a disease of his optic nerves and that is why he has lost his ability to see.
amphiarthrosis (s) (noun), amphiarthroses (pl)
1. A type of articulation between boney surfaces that are connected by ligaments or elastic cartilage which permit limited motion between the vertebrae: After her automobile accident, Pamela found her amphiarthrosis was impaired and she required extensive physiotherapy in order to restore some comfortable movements in her back.
2. A form of jointing consisting of two bones being united by a cartilage of some elasticity, which prevents one surface sliding onto the other, but permits a certain amount of movement; such as, in the contacts of the vertebral column, the carpus (eight bones forming the wrist), etc.: Hester benefited from the physiotherapy exercises she did every morning as she noticed the amphiarthrosis in her back was feeling more flexible and therefore more comfortable.

The condition of an organism that spends part of its life on land and part in water.
amylosis
Hard, waxy deposit composed of fibrils in bundles and consisting of protein and polysaccharides resulting from the degeneration of tissue.
anabiosis (s) (noun), anabioses (pl)
1. A revival or resuscitation of life; returning to life.
2. The condition of an organism that has passed into a resting stage, that is cyclic or seasonal, and is produced by a change in the environment; such as, the loss of moisture.
anaerobiosis (s) (noun), anaerobioses (pl)
Life that is continued by an organism in the deprivation of oxygen, or existing in an oxygen-free atmosphere: Anaerobiosis can be exemplified by life forms that are unicellular, like protozoans and some bacteria, or they can be multicellular.
anamorphosis
1. A distorted image or drawing of a distorted image that appears normal when viewed with or reflected from a special device.
2. The process of making distorted images by means of special mirrors or other devices.
3. A gradual change in form from one type to another during the evolution of a group of organisms.
