-itis

(Greek: a suffix; inflammation, burning sensation; by extension, disease associated with inflammation)

This suffix has come to mean "inflammation of" but originally it meant "pertaining to" or "of the". The Greek word nosos ["disease"] was either expressed or understood, although it might not be included with the basic element. For example, bursitis nosos would mean "disease of the bursa".

Inflammation of the eye or eyes.
orchitis
Inflammation of the testis. The disease is marked by pain, swelling, and a feeling of weight. It may occur idiopathically, or it may be associated with conditions such as mumps, gonorrhea, filarial disease, syphilis, or tuberculosis.

Inflammation of the ear.

Depending upon which part of the ear is inflamed, there is

  • otitis externa (external otitis or "swimmer's ear" is an infection of the skin covering the outer ear and ear canal in which acute external otitis is commonly a bacterial infection caused by streptococcus, staphylococcus, or pseudomonas types of bacteria),
  • otitis media (inflammation of the middle ear which is an inflammation that often begins with infections that cause sore throats, colds, or other respiratory problems, and spreads to the middle ear), and
  • otitis interna (inflammation of the inner ear, or labyrinthitis, inflammation of the labyrinth, or the maze of canals in the inner ear which are in the portion of the ear that is responsible for sensing balance).

Inflammation involving all of the tissues of the connecting bone parts of the body: The pervading pain and discomfort in all his joints was caused by panarthritis for which Mr. Jones took daily pain management medication.

Inflammation, or burning sensations, of all the eye structures or tissues.
panotitis
1. An inflammation of all the parts or structures of the ear.
2. Inflammation of the entire ear.
pansinusitis (s) (noun), pansinusitises (pl)
A sinus infection that exists when one or more of a person's paranasal sinuses becomes inflamed or irritated; however, when all of the paranasal sinuses are inflamed or irritated, then that means someone has pansinusitis.

Pansinusitis may feel like a severe sinus infection, but it often clears up over time without medical treatment.
