Something which, or someone who, cannot be perceived or discerned: The unrecognizableness of the food substances left on the table in the deserted cabin could not be identified because it was forgotten by the visitors who had been there the summer before.

Characteristic of being unable to identify certain people or objects: After watering the almost dead-looking flowers, they looked unrecognizably better the next day!

1. Not identifiable from previous meetings or knowledge: The new book included many short stories from young and unrecognized writers from Mr. Ted's English class. 
2. Not affirmed, admitted, or accepted to be valid: Much of the work backstage in the theater was unrecognized by the director until one of the actors insisted that it should be officially appreciated.

Unaware of or not realizing that something is going on: Sharon was unrecognizing noises in the kitchen when some plates fell and broke into pieces, because she was busy vacuuming in the living room with the door closed.

A reference to being unable to acknowledge or to know: Thomas laid in bed with a high fever and glanced unrecognizingly at his mother without being able to respond to her question.
