-ly, adjective

(A suffix that forms adjectives and examples that are used to show them.)

One set of adjectives indicates a quality of some kind and they are often derived from nouns, although some of them are based on other adjectives.

brotherly (adjective), more brotherly, most brotherly
Characteristic of having the qualities of kinship, compatibility, or social relationships: Jim and Sam have brotherly relationships even though they are not related to each other.
daily (adjective) (no comparatives)
Characterized by a regular occurrence each day: Shirley subscribes to a daily newspaper.

Jim's children take a daily shower.

mealy-mouthed (adjective), more mealy-mouthed, most mealy-mouthed
A reference to anybody who is not willing to tell the truth in clear and simple language or not being plain and straightforward during conversations: Politicians are not the only mealy-mouthed people we must put up with; for example, there are some mealy-mouthed financial advisors that all of us should be aware of, too.
Relating to anyone who is not willing to state the facts in simple, direct words and who is insincere.

northerly (adjective), more northerly, most northerly
Relating to or indicating something or someone who is going toward or from a certain position: The strong northerly wnds made the temperature drop significantly.
queenly (adjective), more queenly, most queenly
Conveying a similarity in appearance, manner, or nature to a particular person: Karen's mother has a queenly attitude and appearance.
ungainly (adjective; more ungainly, most ungainly; ungainlier, ungainliest
A reference to being awkward, clumsy, or without ease of movements: Even though he was still very young, Karl was an ungainly teenager because of the injuries he suffered when he was playing football.

Some people have ungainly conditions because of old age, birth defects, illnesses, etc.

unlikely (adjective), more unlikely, most unlikely
Relating to something which is not probable nor is more often false: George was giving his wife an unlikely reason for getting home late because what he was saying didn't sound logical or plausible.
Something that is probably not true or is improbable.

A reference to something that occurs once a year or every year: Max gets a yearly check-up by his medical doctor.
