Don’t confuse this poly- with another -poly which means “to sell”.

A term having at least three or more units of language larger than a phoneme: Barb's mother thought teenagers and young adults of the SMS age could not use polysyllable words or even be able to write with complete sentences!

The word polysyllable is in itself a polysyllable expression with five syllables!

Describing a group that cannot be defined on the basis of any single character, but on a combination of characters.
polytocia (s) (noun) (no pl)
1. Birth of more than one child at one time: Because polytocia was present in her family history, Joan was pretty sure that she would have twins.
2. Inn botany, the continuation of bearing fruit for many years: In Mrs. Smith's backyard there was a big old pear tree that seeming was a polytocia because it produced lots of pears through all the years she could remember!
