-cide, -cides, -cidal

(Latin: a suffix; kill, killer; murder, to cause death, slayer; cutter; “to cut down”)

Don’t confuse this element with the another -cide that means “to cut”; although -cide, “death”, is related to -cise, -cide, “to cut down”.

aborticide (s) (noun), aborticides (pl)
The destruction of a fetus either by a spontaneous or induced procedure; the act of destroying a fetus in the womb: The parents were distressed because of the natural and unexpected aborticide that happened.
acaricide (verb), acaricides; acaricided; acariciding
To kill or to destroy mites with a special solution: The disinfectant that Mark had purchased at the hardware store was acariciding the mites in the garden very effectively.
adulticide (s) (noun), adulticides (pl)
A pesticide used to killing adult insects: Jill wanted to buy some adulticide that would annihilate some matured bugs in her garden, but not the the larvae.
algaecide, algicide
The killing of algae; a preparation used for destroying algae.
algicide
Any substance that kills algae.
aliicide (verb), aliicides; aliicided; aliiciding
To kill or to murder another person..
amebicide, amoebicide; amebacide
1. A chemical agent used to kill amoebas.
2. A drug that kills amoebas: an antiameba drug. 3. Anything which kills, or is lethal, to amebae.
amicicide (s) (noun), amicicides (pl)
The act of murdering one's friend.
anophelicide (s) (noun), anophelicides (pl)
The killing of mosquitoes: "There are many who participate in anophelicides in efforts to fight against the spread of malaria by mosquitoes or simply to keep them from attacking and irritating humans."
anthracocide
The killing of anthrax bacteria.
aphidicide, aphicide
The killing of aphids.
apicide
The killing of bees.
apricide
Slaughter of boars.
arachnidcide
The killing of spiders, scorpions, etc.
arboricide
1. The wanton destruction of trees.
2. A chemical that kills trees.
