vascul-, vasculo-

(Latin: a vessel or vessels; including, tubes, ducts, or canals that convey and circulate fluids; such as, blood, lymph, or sap, through the bodies of animals or plants)

sensorivascular (adjective) (not comparable)
Descriptive of the production of blood-vessel contractions or dilations as a result of a stimulation that is applied by certain nerves: Mike's cardiologist ordered a sensorivascular examination for him because he seemed to have an irregular blood flow which caused him to feel abnormally cold at times.
vascular
1. Characterized by, or containing vessels that carry or circulate fluids; such as, blood, lymph, or sap, through the body of an animal or plant.
2. Relating to, constituting, or affecting a tube or a system of tubes for the conveyance of a body fluid (as blood or lymph); such as, vascular disease or vascular surgical techniques.
3. Supplied with or containing ducts and especially blood vessels; such as, a vascular tumor or the vascular layer of the skin.
vascular dementia
A common form of dementia in older persons that is due to cerebrovascular disease, usually with step-by-step deterioration from a series of small strokes and a patchy distribution of neurologic deficits affecting some functions and not others.

Risk factors include high blood pressure, an unsteady way of walking, and advanced age.

Symptoms include confusion, problems with recent memory, wandering or getting lost in familiar places, loss of bladder or bowel control (incontinence), emotional problems; such as, laughing or crying inappropriately, difficulty following instructions, and problems handling money.

vascular plant (s) (noun), vascular plants (pl)
Any kind of flora containing specialized conducting tissues (xylem, water-conducting tissues; and phloem, tissue that conducts water and nutrients through the body) and typically differentiated (biological specialization) into roots, stems, and leaves: Vascular plants use a process in which cells or tissues undergo changes toward more specialized forms or functions of tissues: especially, during embryonic development.
vascular styptic
A styptic material that slows down, or stops, hemorrhage by acting as a vasoconstrictor on blood vessels of relatively small size.

A vasoconstrictor is an agent that narrows the blood vessels, which in turn increases resistance to blood flow and raises blood pressure.

vascularity
1. Characterized by, or containing vessels that carry or circulate fluids; such as, blood, lymph, or sap, through the body of an animal or a plant.
2. The extent to which a tissue, or body organ, is compos4ed of blood vessels.
vascularization
The formation of vascular elements, or blood vessels, in a tissue, an organ, or a part of a body during normal development, during repair or growth, or as a result of surgical procedures.

In its full sense, vascularization implies the development of capillaries to supply oxygen and nutriment and to remove waste, and therefore results in proper functional activities.

vascularize
To improve the blood supply to (an organ or tissue) by increasing the number, or improving the function, of the nutrient blood vessels.
vasculature
A system of vessels, or the arrangement of vessels, serving an organ or part of the body, or the body as a whole.
vasculitis (s), vasculitides (pl) (nouns)
Inflammation in the body of a blood vessel or a lymph vessel (a tube that carries the clear liquid in the body that cleans tissues and helps to remove harmful bacteria from blood): "Vasculitis usually leads to damage of the linings of vessels, with a narrowing or blockage, so the blood flow is decreased or stopped."

"The various vasculitides that exist in people cause the tissues that are supplied by the affected vessels to be damaged, or destroyed, because of the lack of blood supply and oxygen."

vasculocardiac
Referring to the heart and blood vessels.
vasculogenesis (s), vasculogeneses (pl)
1. Any formation of the vascular system or of new blood vessels.
2. The formation of the blood vessels and therefore the vascular system in its entirety.
vasculolymphatic
Referring to blood vessels and lymphatic vessels.
vasculomotor
Influencing the contractility of the muscular walls of the blood vessels.
vasculopathy (s) (noun), vasculopathies (pl)
Any disease of the blood vessels: Such vascular ailments, or vasculopathies, including aneurysms, blood clots, and coronary artery diseases, can be extremely serious.
