cyrtosis; kyphosis
1. Any abnormal curvature of the spine or of the extremities (arms, hands, legs, feet, etc.).
2. A bony deformity.
3. A viral disease of the cotton plant, characterized by stunted and distorted growth.
ithyokyphosis
Backward projection of the spinal column.
kyphophobia (s) (noun) (no plural)
An excessive dread of stooping or of becoming stooped: The elderly Mr. Smith, suffering from a kyphophobia, avoided bending down at all because he was afraid of falling, which could cause an injury or even dizziness.
kyphoplasty
A procedure similar to vertebroplasty (nonsurgical method for the repair of vertebral fractures and compression due to osteoporosis), but with the intent of expanding the collapsed vertebra.

Like vertebroplasty, the use of kyphoplasty to treat osteoporotic compression fractures in patients where conservative treatment has failed is relatively recent.

kyphosis
A posterior curvature of the thoracic spine usually the result of a disease (lung disease, Paget's disease or a disease of bone that initially results in the excessive resorption of bone followed by the replacement of normal bone marrow with vascular and fibrous tissue) or a congenital problem.
kyphotic
Relating to or suffering from kyphosis (posterior curvature of the thoracic spine).
postmenopausal cervical kyphosis
An outward curvature (kyphosis) of the cervical vertebrae (the bones of the neck), creating a hump at the back of the neck.

This condition, once thought to be a characteristic deformity of older women, was called a "dowager's hump". A dowager was a woman of high social rank whose husband was dead but who had a title (such as, "duchess") and property because of her marriage to him.

Postmenopausal cervical kyphosis is a result of osteoporotic changes in the cervical spine. It may affect men or women. Like most osteoporotic changes, the condition is often preventable.

An abnormally increased convexity in the curvature of the thoracic spine as viewed from the side.

senile kyphosis
The backward curving of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar vertebrae due to aged related degeneration of the intervertebral discs.
trachelocyrtosis, trachelokyphosis
An abnormal curvature of the cervical portion of the spine.
