fasci-, fascio-, fasc-, fascia- +
(Latin: band, bandage; bundle, bunch; used in the extended sense of "pertaining to the fascia", the band or sheet of fibrous tissue providing a subcutaneous covering for the body)
axillary fascia, fascia axillaris
The fascia that forms the floor of the axilla (underarm area).
It is continuous with the pectoral and clavipectoral fascia anteriorly, with the brachial fascia laterally, and with the fascia of the latissimus dorsi and serratus anterior muscles posteriorly and medially.
clavipectoral fascia
A fascia that extends between the coracoid process, the clavicle, and the thoracic wall.
It includes the muscular fascia which envelops the subclavius and pectoralis minor muscles and the strong membrane (costocoracoid membrane) formed in the interval between them, and the suspensory ligament of the axilla.
The clavipectoral fascia (and the muscles it envelopes) constitute the deep anterior wall of the axilla (armpit area).
fascia
1. A sheet or band of fibrous connective tissue separating or binding together muscles and organs, etc.
2. A flat band of tissue below the skin that covers the underlying tissues and separates different layers of tissue.
Fascia encloses muscles and inflammation of the fascia is referred to as fasciitis.
fascia adherens
A broad intercellular junction in the intercalated disk of cardiac muscle that anchors actin filaments.
fascia brachii, brachial fascia
The deep fascia of the arm; it is continuous proximally with the pectoral fascia and the fascia covering the deltoid; distally it is continuous with the antebrachial fascia.
fasciaplasty, fascioplasty
A plastic operation on fascia.
fasciation
1. The act of binding up or fastening, as with bandages.
2. The manner in which something is bound up or fastened.
3. In botany, an abnormal flattening or coalescence of stems, as in broccoli.
fascicle
1. A small bundle.
2. One of the parts of a book published in separate sections; also called fascicule.
3. In botany, a bundle or cluster of stems, flowers, or leaves.
fasciculus
A bundle of anatomical fibers; such as, of muscle or nerve.
fasciectomy
Excision of strips of fascia (flat layers of fibrous tissue that cause a scar).
fasciitis
Inflammation of the fascia (a lining tissue under the skin that covers a surface of underlying tissues).
fasciole
A band of minute tubercles, bearing modified spines, on the shells of spatangoid sea urchins.
fasciotomy
Incision through a fascia; used in the treatment of certain vascular disorders and injuries when marked swelling is anticipated which could compromise blood flow.
Fasciotomy may be combined with embolectomy (surgical removal of an obstructing blood clot) in the treatment of acute arterial embolism.
