arithmancy, arithmomancy, arithomancy
Divination with numbers, numerology; practiced by Greeks and Chaldeans.
The Greeks would analyze the names of warring enemies and determine their numerical values and from this they would predict the result of the battle.
The Chaldeans divided their alphabet into three sections of seven letters and made a symbolic link to the seven planets. Number values of countries, individuals, and situations represented certain characteristics.
arithmocracy, arithmocratic
A form of government in which governmental power is vested in the group that holds the numerical majority in a state.
arithmogram
A number expressed by the letters of a word, name, or phrase, e.g. the number 666 made up of certain Greek letters.
arithmomania
A compulsive desire to count objects and to make calculations; such as, counting paces when walking, steps in a staircase, etc. A common symptom in obsessive-compulsive disorder.
arithmophobia
Some fears of particular numbers, such as the number thirteen. There are some phobics who fear the tendency to give so many things a number instead of a name. They may be anxious about being nameless or being a no body.
logarithmancy
Divination with mathematical logarithms.
