(Greek: womb, fold; vagina; from "bosom, lap, hollow")

The letter "k" is frequently used in place of the beginning "c" for many of these words.

colpodynia
Pain in the vagina.
colpohyperplasia (also kolpohyperplasia)
1. A thickening of the vaginal mucous membrane.
2. Excessive growth of the mucous membrane and the wall of the vagina.
colpohysterectomy
Vaginal hysterectomy or the removal of the uterus through a surgical incision, not of the abdomen but, within the vagina.

With a vaginal hysterectomy, the scar is not outwardly visible. A vaginal hysterectomy is the opposite of an abdominal hysterectomy.

colpohysteropexy
An operation for the fixation of the uterus performed through the vagina.
colpohysterotomy
Incision into the uterus via the vagina.
colpomicroscope
1. A special microscope for the direct visual examination of the cervical or neck tissue.
2. An instrument which is inserted into the vagina for examination of the vagina and the cervix (entrance to the womb) by means of a magnifying lens.

It is used primarily to identify abnormal vascular and epithelial patterns associated with early neoplasia or formation of tumors.

colpomicroscopy
Direct observation and study of cells within the vagina and the cervix magnified in vivo (in the living body) by means of a special microscope.
colpomycosis, vaginomycosis
A vaginal infection caused by a fungus.
colpomyomectomy
Vaginal myomectomy or the removal of a myoma (a benign fibroid tumor) of the uterus through the vagina.

The term fibroid refers to benign smooth muscle tumors of the uterus. This condition may cause irregular vaginal bleeding.

colpoperineoplasty
Plastic surgery of the perineum involving the vagina.
colpoperineorrhaphy
Repair of a lacerated vagina and perineum.
colpopexy
The use of surgical-quality stitches to bring a displaced vagina back into position against the abdominal wall.
colpoplasty
colpoplysis
Irrigation or douche of the vagina.
colpopoiesis
Surgical construction of an artificial vagina.
