Don't confuse this word family with another auri- unit which means "gold".

aural (adjective), more aural, most aural
1. Characterized by, or pertaining, to the ear or hearing: Nigel's mother had excellent aural abilities and could even hear every word that was whispered in the room next door!
2. Regarding an aura: Jenny noticed aural symptoms that always preceded her migraine headaches.
auricle
1. The part of the external ear that projects outward from the head.
2. An ear-shaped muscular part that sticks out from the surface of each upper chamber atrium of the heart.
3. Etymology: from Latin auricula, "little ear".

A term applied both to the pinna, or flap, of the ear; and also to the ear-shaped tip of the atrium of the heart.

A species of Primula, or primrose, also called, from the shape of its leaves, bear's-ear.
auricular (adjective), more auricular, most auricular
1. Pertaining to the outer ear: An auricular administration of drops into her organ of hearing was necessary because little Jenny had an infection in her auditory system.
2. Characteristic of something which is perceived by or spoken into the ears: An auricular communication or statement is perceived via the body parts that function so people can listen.

The reception of words by a person when listening to others is an auricular process with the ears.

A craniometric point at the center of the opening of an external auditory canal.
auricularly
In an auricular manner or characterized by an ear or hearing.
auriculate
1. Having ears, auricles, or earlobe-shaped parts or extensions.
2. Shaped like an earlobe.
auriculocranial
1. Relating to the auricle or pinna (primary segment) of the ear and the cranium.
2. A reference to an ear and the cranium.
auriculoid
1. Shaped like, or similar, to an ear.
2. Having a form resembling an ear.
auriculoparietal (s) (noun) (no pl)
The ratio of the breadth of the skull between the auricular points of the ear to its greatest breadth: Jack had to find out the auriculoparietal of the skull by measuring the width between the auricular points to its greatest width.
auriculotemporal
Referring to an ear and the temporal region, or the surface region of the head on either side roughly corresponding to the outline of the temporal bone (one of the two irregular bones forming part of the lateral surfaces and base of the skull, and containing the organs of hearing).
auriform
Shaped like an ear.
aurilave
An instrument used to clean the ears.
auripuncture (s) (noun), auripunctures (pl)
A surgical perforation of the tympanic membrane of the ear: In the hospital, an auripuncture was performed in Mrs. Blacks ear because of an illness she had.
auris
The ear or the organ of hearing or the vestibulocochlear organ, consisting of the auris externa (external ear), auris media (middle ear), and auris interna (inner ear).
