onco-, oncho-, -oncus

(Greek: "mass, bulk"; denotes relationship to a tumor, process of cancer formation; swelling, or mass)

oncolysis
1. The destruction of a tumor or tumor cells.
2. The reduction of any swelling or mass.
3. Destruction of a neoplasm; sometimes used with reference to the reduction of any swelling or mass.
oncolytic
Capable of destroying tumors or tumor cells; tumoricidal.
oncoma
A new growth of tissue in which the multiplication of cells is uncontrolled and progressive; also neoplasm.
oncometer
An instrument for measuring the variations in size of the internal organs of the body, as the kidney, spleen, etc.
oncometric
Relating to oncometry.
oncometry
The procedure of determining changes in the size of an organ by using an oncometer.
oncosimeter

The development of tumors.
oncotherapy
The treatment of tumors, with surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy.
oncothlipsis
Pressure or compression caused by a tumor.
oncotic
1. Of or relating to the formation of tumors.
2. Caused by a condition of swelling.
3. Pertaining to, caused by, or marked by swelling.
oncotomy, onkotomy
1. Surgical incision of an abscess, cyst, or tumor.
2. The opening of an abscess, or the removal of a tumor, with a cutting instrument.
oncotropic
Having an affinity for neoplastic cells.
oncovirus, oncornavirous
1. Any of a group of viruses that contain single-stranded RNA and produce tumors in birds and mammals.
2. A virus capable of causing cancer in animals or in humans. These include DNA viruses, ranging in size from Papova viruses to Herpes viruses and the RNA containing retroviruses.
orchidoncus
A tumor of a testis or testicular tumor.
