muco-, muc-, muci-, mucin- +

(Latin: mucus, mucous, or mucosa; a viscid, slippery, slime secretion of the mucous membranes; related to mucor, "mold, moldiness")

mucohemorrhagic
Related to, or accompanied by, mucus and blood.
mucoid
1. Resembling, or like, mucus.
2. Similar to, or having the characteristics, of mucus.
3. Any of a group of glycoproteins, differing from true mucins in their solubilities and precipitation properties (insoluble solid substances that form from chemical reactions between solutions).
mucokinesis
Any therapeutic technique that removes excessive or abnormal secretions from the respiratory tract.
mucolemma
A mucin coat which is a non-cellular envelope secreted around the rabbit egg and its oolemma by the oviduct.
mucolipidosis (s), mucolipidoses (pl)
any inborn error of metabolism that has clinical and cytologic characteristics of both the mucopolysaccharidoses and the sphingolipidoses.
mucolysis
The solution, digestion, or liquefaction (conversion into a liquid) of mucus.
mucolytic
A class of agents that liquefy sputum or reduce its viscosity.

This term is used to describe the characteristics of destroying, or lessening the tenacity of, mucus.

It is most commonly used to describe drugs which have this action and are therefore used in the treatment of bronchitis. The inhalation of steam, for example, also has a mucolytic reaction.

mucomembranous
1. Concerning the mucous membrane.
2. Pertaining to or composed of mucous membrane.
mucopeptide
Any glycosylated peptide derived from a mucoprotein.

Its carbohydrate component normally has alternate residues of aminosugars and uronic acids.

mucoperichondrial
A reference to the mucoperichondrium.
mucoperichondrium
Perichondrium having a mucosal surface, as that of the nasal septum.
mucoperiosteal
Consisting of mucous membrane and periosteum.
mucoperiosteum
1. Periosteum (a dense membrane composed of fibrous connective tissue that closely wraps (invests) all of the bones) having a mucous surface, as in parts of the auditory apparatus.
2. Periosteum that has a mucous surface; or mucous and periosteal surfaces combined to form a membrane.
mucopoiesis
The formation of mucus.
mucopolysaccharidosis
Any illness caused by the incomplete breakdown of various mucopolysaccharide (sugar polymers consisting of uronic acids and amino sugars) sulfates in the body, in which the compounds are passed in urine and deposited in body tissues.
