1. A typically benevolent celestial being that acts as an intermediary between heaven and earth; especially, in Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Zoroastrianism: An angel is defined as a heavenly messenger who either delivers a message to humans, carries out God's will, praises God, or guards God's throne.
2. A representation of such a being usually in Christianity, conventionally it is an image of a human figure with a halo and wings: Sometimes the word angel seems to refer to the nonliving forces of nature; however, there are those who say that it means "personalities of the unseen world".
3. A kind and lovable person or someone who manifests goodness, purity, and selflessness: A secular meaning for angel is someone who is kind or beautiful.
4. Informally, a financial backer of an enterprise; such as, a dramatic production or a political campaign: An angel is considered to be someone who provides money for a politician so he or she can be elected.
5. Etymology: from Latin angelus; from Late Greek angelos, "messenger".

Angelos and the Hebrew equivalent, malak, "messenger", are the two most common terms used in the scriptures to refer to God's intermediaries.
