1. A Greek word for a political assembly that holds formal sessions: Depending on the widely varied constitutions, the various Synehdrions applied to various representatives and/or judiciary organs of Greek and hellenistic city-states and treaty organizations.

Synehdrion was adopted by Hellenistic Jews and corrupted into Aramaic as sanhedrin.
