1. A fringed border or part in the body; such as, that found at the entrance to the fallopian tubes.
2. Any structure forming or resembling a fringe, border, or edge.
3. Collectively, the very fine filamentous projections from the surface of cells or bacteria.
4. Any fringe-like structure:

• A posterior prolongation of the fornix (a structure or fold in the shape of an arch, especially either of two bands of white fibers in the brain) to the hippocampus (curved ridge of tissue in each cerebral hemisphere of the brain).
• One of the delicate processes fringing the mouth of a tube or duct; such as, of the oviduct, or of the siphon (tubular organ by which water is taken in or expelled) of molluscs.
• One of the numerous filaments, smaller than flagella, fringing certain bacteria.

1. The band of white matter along the median edge of the ventricular surface of the hippocampus.
2. A narrow band of fibrous white matter (myelinated axons), which form the fornix (various arched structures), situated on the medial ventricular surface of the hippocampus (area buried deep in the forebrain that helps regulate emotion and memory).

The longest of the fimbriae (thread-like structures) of the uterine tube; it extends from the infundibulum (funnel-shaped organ) to the ovary.
