aeronomy, aeronomic, aeronomical
1. The science dealing with the physics and chemistry of the upper atmosphere; especially in regions of ionized gas.
2. The scientific study of the upper atmospheric regions of the earth and other planets, where the ionization of gas takes place.

Aeronomy is also concerned with the atmospheres around comets and satellites, or any other atmosphere where ionization, particularly of oxygen, takes place.

aero-odontalgia
Another term for aerodontalgia.
aero-odontodynia
Aerodontalgia or toothaches associated with the reduction in atmospheric pressure in high-altitude flying.

The difference in pressure exacerbates existing pulpitis, particularly in connection with caries and restorations.

aero-otitis; barotitis
Inflammation of the ear caused by pressure changes when auditory tubes are obstructed.

It occurs commonly in aviators and divers.

aeroparotitis
Swelling of one or both parotid glands due to the introduction of of air into the glands.

This may occur in those who play wind instruments; however, it also occurs in excessive nose blowing.

aeropathy
Any morbid state induced by a pronounced change in atmospheric pressure; for example, altitude sickness, mountain sickness, or decompression sickness.
aeropause
1. An upper region of the atmosphere, between the stratosphere and outer space, in which gas particles are so sparse as to provide almost no support for man's physiologic requirements or for vehicles that require air for burning fuel or where the air is so thin that aircraft can not operate properly.
2. A region at the upper level of the earth's atmosphere, regarded as the boundary between the atmosphere and outer space.
aeroperitonia, aeroperitoneum
Distention of the peritoneal cavity caused by gas.

The peritoneum is the membrane lining the abdominal cavity.

aerophagia, aerophagy
1. Excessive swallowing of air, usually an unconscious process associated with anxiety, resulting in abdominal distention or belching, often interpreted by the patient as signs of a physical disorder.
2. Abnormal spasmodic swallowing of air; especially, as a symptom of hysteria.
3. The abnormal spasmodic swallowing of air, a common cause of flatulence and belching.

It can result in the distention of the stomach.

aerophagic
Characterized by swallowing air.
aerophilately
The collecting of airmail stamps.
aerophile
1. A plant pollinated by wind; fertilized by airborne pollen.
2. Thriving in exposed windy habitats.
3. Disseminated by the wind.
aerophilic
