amphiclinous
In genetics, a hybrid, exhibiting more of the characteristics of one parent than the other.
Amphicoela
A small amphibian order in the subclass Anura; it contains a single family, Ascaphidae, which are primitive toads with amphicoelous vertebrae.
amphicoelous
Relating to a vertebra that is concave at both ends, as is the case in most fish and certain reptiles.
amphicrania
A headache or pain affecting both sides of the head.
amphicribral
Having a concentric vascular bundle in which phloem surrounds the central strand of xylem; an amphicribral bundle.
amphicryptophyte
A marsh plant with amphibious vegetative parts.
amphicyonid
One of the Amphicyonidae, large dogs that appeared in the Oligocene and achieved a Holarctic distribution in the Miocene.
amphicyte
A neuroglial cell that encapsulates the dorsal root ganglion cells.
amphid
1. One of a pair of circular pits or tubes situated laterally at the anterior end of aquatic nematode worms, thought to be sense organs.
2. A salt of the class formed by the combination of an acid and a base, or by the union of two oxides, two sulphides, selenides, or tellurides, as distinguished from a haloid compound.
amphidelphic
In nematodes, having two ovaries, one directed anteriorly and the other posteriorly.
amphidetic
A reference to a bivalve ligament, extending both before and behind the beak.
amphidiploid
Having a diploid set (cell with a full set of genetic material) of chromosomes derived from each parent.
amphidiploidy
The condition of being amphidiploid.
amphidromia
A family festival in ancient Athens in honor of the birth of a child, during which the child received its name.
amphierotism
A Condition in which a person is able to conceive of himself or herself as a male or female or both simultaneously.
